Journey of Faith

About Us

We are a bunch of Christ-followers in West Seattle who didn’t fit into regular “church”.  We don’t like Sunday mornings — we’d rather go camping/snowboarding on weekends, or go get coffee at Alki Beach…so we only gather together in a larger fashion on Sunday evenings at 6:00pm — and throughout the week!  We also are primarily “youth-led”, we have a variety of people here that are of all ages — we just are young at heart!  So, we have ear-plugs available for people who love Jesus, but aren’t up to totally blowing the windows out during worship…

The Journey of Faith Church gathers every Sunday for one evening service, 6:00-7:30pm at the SKATE CHURCH HEADQUARTERS (4157 California Avenue SW, Seattle, 98116)

The Journey of Faith is a gathering of Jesus Christ followers who are striving to follow God with all our hearts, souls, mind and strength. We are not perfect, but we are striving together to become more like Him. Although we started out primarily as a “youth church”, we are believers of all ages who want to move further down this journey of faith toward Jesus. We are not a “seeker service”, rather a gathering of believers who are unabashedly worshiping in spirit and in truth. COME JOIN US!

Core Values

#1: God/Family/ Ministry. Be sure to get your priorities straight! Church or ministry is not your god — don’t get confused!

#2: Church is not four walls, or on Sunday only. Although our goal is to strive to be “perfect” we are not currently perfect now. It is a process of spiritual maturity. Our goal is to have grace, kindness, yet firmness, when dealing with ourselves and other believers. This is done by encouraging believers to confess their sins to one another in an environment of trust and confidence. If sin is discovered (which it will be), we will work as a loving family to correct and encourage each other to move forward in following Christ. Constant, dwelling sin, will be dealt with firmly. We are seeking true spiritual maturity as seen in Galatians 5:22. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.” (Gal 5:22)

#3: Servant leadership. We believe that the greatest among us, will be a servant — all leaders must be willing to be the greatest servants. “The greatest among you will be your servant.” (Matthew 23:11)

#4: Leaders must “walk with us for a while” first. We believe that in order to be a leader, you must have “walked with us a while” so that the fruits of the Spirit are evident. We also believe that before someone is given a big responsibility, they must have proven themselves with small things. ”You have been faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge with many things” (Matthew 25:21) ”…continue in what you have learned…because you know those from who you learned it.” 2 Tim 3:14

#5: Dedicated to being “Spirit-led”. This means we are willing to throw out the existing paradigm & model of church, in order to do the unusual and extravagant to follow Christ. This may entail taking a “risk” during public meeting times by throwing away the program, and doing things creatively – with the risk of failure. All things, however, will be done orderly and without chaos. ”If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” (Gal 5:18)

#6: Importance and Centrality of the Bible. We are dedicated to studying the scriptures and following what we find there. We are willing to discuss, debate, and change as we discover what is in the Bible. We believe that the Foursquare denomination sets accurate guidelines around scripture, and we follow it.

#7: Everyone has an opportunity to minister. Once proven, no one will be denied an opportunity to minister.
“Let no man despise you for your youth, but by your fruits…” 1 Timothy 4:11
“There is neither Jew, nor Greek, slave or free male or female, for you all are one in Christ.”  Galatians 3:28
God gives some as apostles, prophets, evangelists, teachers”  Ephesians 4:11
“Let not many of you be teachers…because you will be judged more strictly.”  James 3:1

#8: The “pastor” is not the central point of this church…Jesus Christ is! Journey of Faith is not a “personality-led” church…. There is not a charismatic pastor with a powerful personality who will draw people here. We believe that Jesus Christ is the head of this church, and that if we “lift Him up, He will draw all men to himself”.  ”And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.” (Col 1:18)
